Did you know that the 128×95-foot ice rink in Red Arrow Park is actually bigger than the one at Rockefeller Center?
You can visit this downtown landmark January through March for free ice skating (with skate rentals available at a small cost). Remodeled in 1999, the ice rink can fit around 100 people at a time and is conveniently located right next to a Starbucks, so you can enjoy a hot chocolate.
No reservations are needed this season, and as usual, the rink will offer free skating for visitors with their own skates, and skate rentals are available for $9 for adults and $7 for under 18.
Be on the lookout for the City of Milwaukee’s annual Superhero IceCAPEade and special events like Broadway Skates.
Helpful hint: Polar Pals are available for kids who are just learning to skate, and ice sleds are available for people with mobility limitations.

If you’re looking for an outdoor ice skating experience, head to the Humboldt Park lagoon.
The lagoon is surrounded by a majestic park, and it’s a lovely way to spend a winter afternoon.
Volunteers do their best to maintain the conditions of the ice with flooding, and they snowblow separate areas for both recreational skaters and hockey players.
Check first for updated hours and lagoon conditions on the Humboldt Park Friends website. If you see the lights on at night, that means the ice is ready.
There are convenient bathrooms located right across the street from the lagoon in the Pavilion.

The Dan Jansen Family Fest Rink in Konkel Park is a natural rink, so hours are weather dependent. For up-to-date information for the 2022-2023 season, follow the rink’s Facebook page.
Admission and ice skate rental is free, available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limited supply of sizes available, so bring your own skates if you have them. A limited number of free skate aids are also available for beginning skaters.
A warming area and concessions are available during hours of operation.

In addition to the river at Boy Scout Park, the City of Cedarburg maintains an ice rink at Cedar Creek Park. There is lighting in Cedar Creek Park to allow for evening skating.
The rink closes when the temperature falls below zero, until the rinks can be plowed after a snow storm, or during unseasonable weather conditions.

The Pettit National Ice Center is a 200,000 square foot indoor ice skating facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, featuring two international-size ice rinks and a 400-meter speed skating oval. Public skating times, rental skate fees, and occasional promotions are listed on their website. They also offer ice skating classes for all ages throughout the year.
(Don’t forget to bring a coat! It may be an indoor facility, but it is still chilly.)

8. The Dinky Rink at Milwaukee Public Market

The Dinky Rink at the Milwaukee Public Market is the city’s teeny tiniest skating destination. It can only hold 8 people at a time. It’s free, but registration is required.

10. Kern Center at MSOE
